Prairie Street

10/25/2019

Hot off the presses! My story "Prairie Street" has been published in the awesomely named "Potato Soup Journal!" Prairie Street was inspired by a true love story set in Chicago and Evergreen, Colorado during the nineteenth century. The ranch (names have been changed!) is still there in Evergreen, a beautiful testament to the past and how one chance encounter can make all the difference...

Throwback Thursday: "Sleep Baby, Sleep"

10/24/2019

In 2008 while visiting my father's grave at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, I came across a headstone of a child that read "Sleep Baby, Sleep." It was the grave of a little girl named Marjorie who had died in the 1890s, the heartbreak of her parents apparent on the headstone. I decided to try to research Marjorie, not expecting to find anything, when I discovered that her father was a fairly well known General. He and his wife were stationed at Ft. Logan back when it was a prairie outpost in the wilds of Colorado and he rose to prominence, but not before burying his precious Marjorie and a baby boy simply marked "Infant" right next to her.

"Sleep Baby, Sleep" was the first story I ever wrote as a tribute to my Dad and Major General Graves. It was originally featured in "Denver Pieces" magazine and in 2012, appeared in "bioStories."

Corpse Flower

10/24/2019

Published in one of my all-time favorite publications "Literally Stories," "Corpse Flower" was sadly inspired by the true story of an old friend and a legendary flower that only blooms for a day after years of lying dormant. The merging of these two thoughts make up this strange little tale.

A Quiet Man

10/24/2019

This one tells the story of a family that reunites at the funeral of their father, a man of few words who tries to bring his wayward children together even from beyond the grave. A timeless tale of family dysfunction, heartbreak, love, and redemption. Originally published in the "Adelaide Literary Magazine," I hope you will enjoy "A Quiet Man."

With the joy of gathering with family over Thanksgiving each year, there can also be a touch of horror... Or in the case of "Family Gathering," more than just a touch! Read about the Thanksgiving from hell in "Family Gathering" published in the 47 issue of Sirens Call. My story is on page 128!
